A Little Klutzy Update

I have been insanely busy since October. I have a job! A real grown up job working for the Postal Service. I really truly love it, but it has impacted the amount of time that I have been able to write. I tell you that Christmas time at the Post Office is no joke. Your mail carrier deserves a vacation. I am loving the job though. Lots to learn. Lots to remember. But it is really the perfect real job for me.

With the new job I have been spending all my extra time cuddling the kids and trying desperately to keep up with the laundry. Most of the time I’m so exhausted that I long for bed much earlier than was my norm.

Now that I’m getting a grove with it though I’m finding ways to balance more than just the absolute minimums to keep everything going. I am forging time to go over my novel that I have been working on for many years now. I stalled out two years ago and Ihave been stuck. So so stuck. What I’ve done though is I printed out what I had (54 pages! Not a full book but too much to just keep it in an electronic format to rework) Back in October I went through with red pen and fixed some things that glared out at me. Before USPS training took over my life I was slowly working on getting Version 2.0 into Word. Then I just had to stop. I couldn’t look at a computer screen without falling asleep. Over the last week I’ve really attempted to chip away at it. The actual transfer isn’t going very quickly. But I am researching as I go and thinking of the plot and how it will all actually go. I think, though, that I have finally gotten a real footing on some of the things that were bugging me. So it is starting to run a little smoother.

As far as getting more blog posts out there…. I don’t know if that is where I see my writing currently. I have things that I want to share. But I really want to focus on my novel when I find the time in my days to write.

  1. I was so happy to see your name pop up in my emails. I can relate. I started working for Her Majesty in December and, around that, I’ve been trying to maintain family life and work on my novel, not to mention adapting to a pretty high pressure job itself. Blogging just hasn’t been high enough on my priorities list. I do plan to post a cursory update soon though, perhaps over the weekend. I hope you’re well in yourself.

    1. Having a job is nice. I don’t know about you, but when I was sworn in as a federal employee (I’m not sure what you guys call it on the other side of the pond) I was overcome with pride. It was a pretty cool experience! Congratulations on your job. The struggle to find a good fit or well any job is so incredibly disheartening. For a while I was sure that I was convinced that I wasn’t even qualified to even look for a job.

I hope working on your novel finds it’s way in smooth waters. I hope you’re able to make it to submitting to publishing houses soon. I hope family life is going well for you as well. 🙂

      1. Yes, I was essentially sworn in myself as I’m an employee of the government now. As for feeling pride, not so much. It’s just a means to an end for me. I see writing as my job. That’s not to say that I don’t try to provide a good service in my role. It’s perhaps not the perfect fit as it’s reduced my writing time exponentially, but I’m enjoying it more than I thought I would.

I’ve just posted today about how things are going with the editing. I woke this morning thinking “I might actually change the entire direction of the series itself.” There’s nothing quite like giving yourself extra work to do. Haha. Family life is good. Little one is getting less little, but still uncommonly adorable 🙂
